Dhaga - Handloom and Handicrafts

Dhaga was born from an ardent desire amongst its founders to create a larger canvas than what exists today, for all the beautiful and unparalleled creativity that the simple artisans of India have been quietly perfecting for centuries. People's art in India does not wait for a canvas or paints made in a factory. Rock faces and caves, a village wall, the floor, a palm leaf, a piece of wood, or even the palm of a hand is space enough. For colors, the infinite use provided by nature from flowers, leaves or stones suffices. The instinctive urge to honor Nature and avoid polluting it allows people with traditional wisdom to expereriment with any natural resource they find around them. Even when they move to pigments and consequently brighten their images their expressions, stories, motifs and local identities remain true to their known cultural understanding....

Dhaga is the step to promote and develop the Regional Heritage – Handloom & its Artifacts with its traditional excellence. Dhaga aims at catering to the needs of the handloom sector both at micro and macro levels. Dhaga has plans to give assistance for covering basic inputs like looms and accessories, loans for working capital, product development, infrastructure and institutional support, training to weavers, supply of equipment and marketing support. The Dhaga initiative aims at providing all such facilities that would enable the weavers both within and outside the comparative fold to produce quality fabrics that will find ready markets.
